Introduction- Coach Carter Malone

Carter Malone is the new boys’ basketball coach for the 2026-2027 school year. He introduced himself and we discussed how the booster club works together with the coaches. He is looking into summer camps now.

Old Business

·         Coaches requests:

o   Football was moved to May due to conflicts

o   Golf: Bags and golf balls have been ordered. The girls rain pants came in and the girls really like the fit.

·         Frostbite 4:

o   We have not seen any income/payment from the Frostbite 4 for this year. It is possible we may not see anything from that, or it may still be coming. No information on this.

·         Awards Night:

o   Coming up on May 11th. Wake and Bake has agreed to make 400 cupcakes at a cost of $0.50 per cupcake. John made a motion to approve the cupcake order, seconded by Kim. Motion carried.

o   Carrie still needs more pictures for the picture book for seniors. We discussed printing a smaller amount this year, around 50, as it is just the seniors that receive these. Carrie needs time for putting the books together and printing, so she would like to have by the pictures by April 13th.

New Business

·         Coaches requests:

o   Cheer Team (Kristin and Amy) are requesting funds to go to Dordt camp, wildfire camp, 2 camps on technique and skills, and open gym at Strive. Cost for the camps total $2500 and it includes both sideline and competition cheer.

The cheer team is also seeking funds to provide proper matting for the girls to cheer on. Currently it is a safety issue to practice because they don’t have the correct mats. They currently practice at Strive Gymnastics; however, they have to practice on a spring floor there which is very different than a mat on a dead floor, which is what they compete on. Cost of the matt is $11,051. They have asked the school to pay 50%, however it has not gone to the school board yet. In the request at the booster club, they are asking the booster club pay 50%, school pay 25%, and the girls pay 25%. Mats could be stored at the elementary gym if purchased. They would also be able to host competitions if we had the proper mat.

§  Andrew made a motion to approve $2500 for cheer camps, seconded by Stephen. Motion carried. We are going to table the discussion on mats until after we hear from the school on their contribution.

o   Wresting (Michael Schurch)- The wrestling team is planning to attend camp in Lincoln Nebraska June 22-26. They normally take around 20 kids. They are requesting $3500 for camp, which pays for lodging and food as part of the camp. They usually ask the kids to pay $150 to attend. It was discussed to reduce the cost to each athlete that they pay to attend. Reducing the amount the kids pay down to $100 per athlete would increase the cost about $1,000 for the booster club.

§  Jeff made a motion to approve up to $4,500 for the kids to go to camp. Butch seconded the motion. Motion carried.

o   Discussed the need to be diligent with the funds we have as we have had more coaches requests this year.

·         BABC scholarship applications due April 2nd, 2026.

o   Applications for the scholarship will be due tomorrow. The subcommittee will make the decisions together based on applicants.

·         Athletic passes- why do we pay the school for this? We currently pay the school $50 for each athletic pass sold. This year the cost back to the school was $5100.

·         Last chance track meet set for May 22nd, 2026. We won’t know for sure until the week before due to weather.  Volunteers will be needed for concessions, tickets, and adults at some of the stations.

Meeting adjourned. Motion made by Stephen to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Nick.

Next meeting date: May 6, 2025 @ 6pm HS Library
