2018 Watchdogs Homecoming
The Beresford Watchdogs had a successful and very busy Homecoming during the last week of September. Festivities kicked off Monday night with Coronation where a new King and Queen were crowned. The homecoming court consisted of Alana Bergland, Kaylen Hoffbeck, Emma Hepner, Sydney Nelson, and Grace Quartier for the girls and Alec Atwood, Jack Antonson, Blake Peterson, Beau Van Gelder, and Tyler Kropuenske for the boys. Tyler Kropuenske was crowned King and Kaylen Hoffbeck was crowned Queen.
The Boys Golf team competed on Monday at the Region Tournament in Dakota Valley. Both Payton Borah and Hayden Wilson shot a 90 and made the cut for the State Golf Tournament in Dell Rapids on October 1st& 2nd.
Beresford’s Cross Country team competed at the Colman-Egan Hawk Invitational on Tuesday. Both the Boys and the Girls Varsity teams walked away with the best team scores winning their respective categories. Top placers for the Boys were Tommy Cordell (7th), Cody Klungseth (9th), Andrew Atwood (11th), and Caleb Weiland (16th). Top placers for the Girls were Anna Atwood (4th), Jaycee Fischer (7th), Laura Bogue (8th), Jordyn Fischer (9th), and Gabrielle Engbarth (13th).
Tuesday night, the Girls Volleyball team hosted the Chester Area Flyers. The Lady Dawgs played tough, but came up short against the highly ranked Chester team in three hard fought sets (18-25) (14-25) (12-25). The Lady Dawgs were back in action on Thursday night against the Lennox Orioles. The two well matched teams went head to head in four intense sets that ultimately ended in triumph for the Dawgs (23-25) (26-24) (25-23) (25-15).
The Varsity Boys Cross Country team traveled to the Lennox Orioles XC Invite on Thursday where they finished in second place as a team. Top finishers were Alec Atwood (1st), Nico Sanz Curros (4th), Brandon Andrews (16th), and Dallas Davis (18th).
Friday shaped up to be an amazing day packed with Marching Band Festivities, the Homecoming Parade, and the Homecoming Football game. Beresford hosted 23 area schools, as well as The Pride from SDSU for the 2ndAnnual Watchdog Marching Festival. Beresford’s Marching Band participated in the festival, but was ineligible to compete in the competition as the host school. The Homecoming Parade kicked off at 2pm followed by tailgating and a fly over by the Vanguard Squadron just prior to kick off. The Beresford Football team hosted Elk Point Jefferson and took control of the football game immediately. Halftime score of 40-0 gave the Watchdogs a commanding lead, which they expanded in the second half ending the game with a final score of 47-7. The night concluded with a spectacular fireworks show put on by Beresford Athletic Booster Club. A big thank you to Dennis McKelvey for providing the BABC with fantastic fireworks.
The Girls Volleyball team made the trek up to Volga to play the Sioux Valley Cossacks. The Lady Dawgs emerged victorious in three sets (25-14) (25-21) (25-20) with just enough time to get home and get ready for the Homecoming Dance. Along with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night, Beresford also hosted the 2018 Watchdog Hall of Fame Banquet at The Bridges where several Beresford Alumni were inducted into the Watchdog Hall of Fame.
